Under the new initiative, previously designated smoking areas are closed and tobacco usage is prohibited at all Olean General Hospital facilities and areas surrounding the Hospital including vehicles parked on the property.

We have a personal obligation to promote good health,” said Timothy Finan, Olean General Hospital President & CEO. “Olean General Hospital has a commitment to not only improve the health of our patients, but also our employees. We want to do everything we can to prevent poor health.”
Because tobacco use is a leading cause of death and disease in the United States, the Hospital began preparing for a smoke-free environment almost two years ago with the introduction of smoking cessation classes and the provision of New York State Smokers' Quitline information to employees who smoke.
"Preventing tobacco usage at the Hospital is like a New Year’s resolution,” says Gail Bagazzoli, RN, employee health manager at Olean General Hospital. “It’s a policy that will positively impact the health of patients, visitors, volunteers and staff while they are here.”
People who want to quit smoking can attend a smoking cessation course offered via the Olean General Hospital’s education staff. For details, call (716) 375-6156. Individuals can also call the New York State Quitline at 1-866-NY-QUITS or talk to their pharmacist, physician, or health insurance companies about options to help them reduce tobacco usage.
